Summer Solistice 2009

Summer solistice occurred on June 21, 2009 at 5L46 pm...it was raining and dark but nonetheless the longest day of the year...the parents were down in North Carolina for my cousins wedding so I had the house to myself...over the four days my friend Danny came over and we had fun eating baerbecue, making music and doing art...it was funny over those days because the high school and college kids were raging on either side of the house and I was like an old man complaining the riff raff disturbing the situation...one night rain came down gentle over the leaves while I cooked a london broil on the grill listening to mad cried of wasted kids...summer solistice indeed...

Night In the 'Qua...

night in the qua shifting through the streets like esau alone...off the train of alienated homogenized man...skateboard punk rockers rolling in the lot...they said their always there...I've never seen them before...I wonder what that means...like Merlin I'm as old as the hills...limousines escorting the power brokers back from their day of slice and dice...the night is magical...the neon light like a holy grail...I make my way through the woods knowing the path...it's where the bones are buried...much like how these people make their money down in sterile canyons of manhattan...

Process Journalism....

And then there is being there. If a plane goes down in the Hudson, and you happen to be standing around, you can now play CNN. This is where citizen journalism meets process journalism meets Twitter journalism. It’s a powerful real-time news punch. CNN’s whole iReport operation is a testament to this power of citizen journalism.
We’ve only begun to see the power of Twitter as a platform for process journalism and citizen journalism. Using citizen journalism and process journalism ideas in conjunction with this evolving medium will breed new and exciting information delivery options for all consumers.
How can you leverage these ideas in your organization? If you’re in the news business, how can you deliver information faster to consumers? I know of dozens of journalists who now tweet links to their stories or posts when they go live. Why not let your Twitter followers know about this in advance? Let us know you’re working on a story, who you’re talking to, what you’ve learned so far and how we – your readers – can get involved in the process. Don’t just use Twitter as a way to drive traffic to your posts, use it as a way to guide your posts. Deliver the news now and embrace the future of journalism. Get out of the past.

x at the Bowery Ballroom...

I just saw X at the Bowery Ballroom....the band was in top form as they always are...real pros....the music sounds better than ever but it can't escape its 20the century roots...the thinking is retro...this was reflected in the taping policy...whenever the beeping red light of a taper was seen either the Bowery's staff or the band's roadie was on that person to stop it. I got nailed twice...I beat it on the third night once I knew what the scene was...there in lies the contradiction...the punk ethos is questioning authority not establishing and enforcing it...taping should be permitted as it relates to the free flow of information and the exchange of ideas....inhibiting this process makes us passive as individuals and ultimately makes us docile subjects of the state...this is what I mean by retroactive...most the of fans from what I could see what to come and have their fantasy of X and in punk in general...but they don't really know X or punk for that matter...you don't see X fans at any of the band members solo projects where I believe they really demonstrate their talent...seeing X is like seeing these artist's in their Bealte incarnation...it's like a cartoon version of themselves...there they are playing the songs like they played thirty years ago...it's not real...the band should be touring on a new batch of songs commenting on things how they are now in the present, not some fantasy of what the past was which is why taping should be allowed...they are not going to stop it so why legalize it and bring the quality up?...why not bring the band into the present and have them as a force against the brutal stale corporate culture we live in...that would be punk....
